Convert PDF to Google Sheets
Google Sheets cannot open a PDF. This converter reads the PDF with AI, rebuilds every table as rows and columns, and gives you a file Sheets imports in one click, scans included.
Google Sheets imports Excel, CSV, and text files, but not PDFs. That is why converting PDF to Google Sheets by hand usually ends in copy-paste: values land in one column, multi-line descriptions split into extra rows, and numbers arrive as text you cannot sum. This converter does the part Sheets cannot. The AI finds the tables on each page, reads them cell by cell, and writes them into a clean spreadsheet file with every value in its own column.
From there it is one step: in Google Sheets choose File, Import, Upload, and pick the file. Your PDF data is now a Google Sheet you can filter, sort, chart, and share. It works on digital PDFs and on scanned or photographed pages, where there is no text to copy at all. Try it on your own document above: the first page converts free with no signup.
How to convert a PDF to Google Sheets
- Upload the PDF
Drop the PDF into the box above. Statements, invoices, reports, price lists, and scanned pages all work.
- Let the AI rebuild the tables
The converter detects every table and reads it cell by cell, so columns stay aligned and multi-line entries stay in one row.
- Download Excel or CSV
Check the preview of page one, then download the result as an .xlsx or .csv file.
- Import it into Google Sheets
In Google Sheets, open File, Import, Upload, and choose the file. Pick "Create new spreadsheet", "Insert new sheet(s)", or, for a CSV, "Append to current sheet".
Why Google Sheets cannot open a PDF
A PDF stores characters and their positions on a page, not rows and columns. Google Sheets has no PDF import, and the common workaround, opening the PDF with Google Docs from Drive, gives you text: tables collapse into lines, columns run together, and a scanned page often comes back half read. Pasting that into a sheet means splitting and retyping by hand.
To extract data from PDF to Google Sheets with the columns intact, turn the PDF into real table data first. ScanPilot reads the rendered page the way you do, so it handles what breaks the workarounds:
- Tables with merged or empty cells, which shift copied values into the wrong column
- Descriptions that wrap onto two lines, kept in one row instead of two
- Scanned PDFs and phone photos, read with AI OCR because there is no text layer to copy
- Tables that run across pages, exported as one continuous list
Excel or CSV: which file to import
Both open cleanly in Google Sheets. Use the Excel (.xlsx) download when you want a new spreadsheet with the data ready to go. Use CSV when you add rows to a sheet you already keep, such as a monthly expense log or a stock list: Google Sheets can append a CSV straight to the bottom of the current sheet. The CSV is UTF-8, so names and symbols in any language import correctly.
If you also work in Excel, the same file opens there directly; see PDF to Excel. For bank statements going into accounting software, the bank statement converter is tuned for transaction tables.
What people move from PDF into Google Sheets
- Bank and card statements for a shared budget or expense tracker
- Invoices and bills collected into one sheet for bookkeeping
- Price lists and catalogues from suppliers, to compare or reprice
- Reports and exports that a system only provides as PDF
- Scanned registers, lists, and forms, including handwritten ones (see handwritten PDF to Excel)
Encrypted and never used for training
Files are encrypted in transit, processed only to produce your result, and never used to train AI models. Nothing is written to your Google account: you decide where the data goes when you import it.
Why convert with ScanPilot?
AI table extraction
The AI reads your document the way you do, so columns land where they belong instead of being guessed from character positions.
Scans included
OCR runs automatically, so scanned pages convert the same way digital PDFs do.
Try before you decide
The first page converts free with no signup, so you judge the quality on your own document, not a marketing sample.
Private and encrypted
Files are encrypted in transit, processed only for your conversion, deleted afterwards, and never used for training.
Frequently asked questions
Can Google Sheets convert a PDF?
No. Google Sheets imports Excel, CSV, ODS, and text files, not PDFs. Convert the PDF to an Excel or CSV file first, then use File, Import in Sheets.
How do I convert a PDF to Google Sheets?
Upload the PDF above, download the result as Excel or CSV, then in Google Sheets open File, Import, Upload and choose the file. The first page converts free with no signup, so you can check the result first.
Does it export directly into my Google account?
No. You download the file and import it yourself, which takes a few seconds and means ScanPilot never needs access to your Google Drive.
Does it work with scanned PDFs?
Yes. AI OCR and table detection run together, so scanned and photographed pages convert like digital PDFs.
Why not open the PDF with Google Docs?
Google Docs turns a PDF into text. Tables lose their columns, so you end up splitting and retyping values in Sheets. This converter keeps the table structure.
Is it free?
The first page of any PDF converts free with no signup. Full documents need a ScanPilot plan.
Can I convert a PDF with many pages?
Yes. Paid plans convert every page into one file, so a long statement or report becomes one sheet you import once.
